100% of our particleboard is made from recycled and recovered wood fibers. That means from post industrial waste streams recovered from the manufacturing process that wood mills utilize to manufacture the lumber used elsewhere in your home. Building our closet organizers from recovered particleboard has far less impact on forests than building them from solid wood. Re-using wood fibers to produce recovered particle board has far less impact than burning the by-product from wood mills for energy, (known as co-generation) or sending that by-product to landfills.
The particleboard we use complies with the Phase I, January 1, 2009 maximum formaldehyde emission limits set by the California Air Resource Board on April 26th 2007. That means that there is no more than 0.18ppm (parts per million) of formaldehyde in the particleboard that is going into your closet. The panels we use have also been granted Environmentally Preferable Product Certification, (EPP), by the Composite Panel Association.
In addition to these statistics the particleboard panels we use qualify for up to 6 credits in the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
We are proud that the closet organizers we produce and ship are environmentally sound and meet high standards set for emissions and air quality. One of our highest priorities at EasyClosets is to stay aware and ahead of all relevant regulatory policies that impact our products.
We recently achieved our goal of utilizing over 95% recyclable materials in our packaging process.
We've developed a packaging system to ensure the leftover packaging from your closet project does not fill up landfills.
The corrugated cardboard packaging we use to ship an average job consists of 30-50% recycled paper products.
This is the highest recycled content possible to produce the necessary strength needed to protect the product we ship to you. The issue with boxes comprising more than 50% recycled content is that they begin to lose their fiber integrity and the result is soft, easy to tear corrugated cardboard which does not function well in the shipping environment.
98% of our inbound cardboard from our suppliers is recycled into packing material onsite.
This has significantly reduced the amount of waste product that is carted away from our facility.
The average EasyClosets sale results in significantly less carbon and greenhouse gas emissions from trucks and automobiles than purchasing from a local closet company.
Think about it…The great majority of raw materials in the average custom closet originate in Canada and therefore travel cross country essentially the same distance to your local closet franchise as to your local UPS hub. If you call in one or more local closet companies, their designer(s) are going to drive across town (or often much further) to your home for the design consultation(s). Then the company you choose will repeat that trip in install truck to show up at your door on your install date. With EasyClosets, your UPS driver makes his delivery of your closet as part of his usual route. The increased mileage is usually the difference between your house and your neighbor who is also receiving a UPS delivery that day. Your shipment travels with other freight through the UPS distribution system to your location with much greater efficiency.
100% of our waste product resulting from cut closet rods is recycled.
Until 2007, stock lengths were sent to our customers. The excess lengths after our customers would cut their closet rods to size were discarded locally. Now, everything is custom cut to size with our computer controlled saws and any remnant pieces are recycled. This improvement saves time for our customers and is good for the environment.
