EasyClosets started out like many other closet businesses. The founders of the
business started the business by designing and installing custom closets
directly in customers’ homes in 1997. Soon after, we saw that there was an
opportunity to design and sell closets using the tools becoming available on the
internet. Using the web, we knew that we could drastically reduce the usual
lead times associated with a typical custom closet installation while also
offering our closet organizers a fraction of the cost. We could offer this cost
savings because of the efficiency of our web-based closet design process and because we do
not sell through franchises.
We started with a closet design tool that offered fairly standardized kits. And
while it quickly became apparent to us that our customers needed an ability to
customize their design far beyond a standard closet kit, we knew immediately that we
were on to something.
